Musical Encounters - The Tour! sponsored by 
 The Sphinx Chamber Orchestra tour will offer a diverse program featuring well-known repertoire in addition to works by African-American and Latino composers, including works by Mozart, Piazzolla, Michael Abels, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and others. The program will feature the acclaimed Sphinx Chamber Orchestra (SCO) in addition to select solo performances by the top Laureates of the national Sphinx Competition for young Black and Latino string players. This unique group earned rave reviews from The New York Times in December of 2004, during its highly acclaimed debut at Carnegie Hall. Allan Kozinn of the Times described their performances as “first-rate in every way” and the ensemble to have “produced a more beautiful, precise and carefully shaped sound than some fully professional orchestras that come through Carnegie Hall in the course of the year.”
The tour also features the Harlem Quartet, an ensemble whose mission is to engage young and new audiences and to advance diversity in classical music. Comprised of all First Place Laureates of the Sphinx Competition, the quartet is managed by Sciolino Artist Management.
